2026 CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW

Wellesley is on the hunt for its second consecutive Liberty League title as the Blue head into the 2026 championship with four of their five golfers who participated at last year’s championship. This season, as a team Wellesley won the Hartford Invitational and finished among the top five teams in four other tournaments, including a third-place showing at Bowdoin’s Polar Bear Shootout. The Blue are one of two Liberty League teams ranked in the latest Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) poll, checking in at No. 15. Junior Sarah Yeh headlines the 2026 squad after a runner-up finish at the 2025 championship; she opened the first round with a 73 (+1) and followed it up with a 79 (+7) to total 152 over the two days last May. This season, she tied for first at the Hartford Invitational, shooting a 75. She was second on the team at the Jekyll Island Invitational, tying for 53rd overall among 120 golfers with a three-round total of 240 (78-80-82). Junior Kaurvaki Bajpai will aim to improve last year’s score of 157 (T-7th). She is coming off a team-best seventh-place finish at the Northeast Invitational, where she competed as an individual and posted a two-round score of 150 (73-77). First-year Jessica Li will look to make some noise at her first conference championship. She paced the team in three tournaments this season, most recently at the Amherst Jack Leaman Invitational (T-4th, 149—73-76). She was also the team’s top golfer and among the overall top 10 at Middlebury (T-4th, 157—77-80) and Bowdoin this fall, where she posted a two-under 144 (70-74) to tie for sixth.

NYU is eyeing a return atop the team leaderboard as the Violets seek their fourth Liberty League title since 2022. They are also featured in the most recent WGCA Division III poll and are ranked No. 2 among 25 Division III teams. NYU closed out a strong regular season with three straight tournament victories during the spring: the Jekyll Island Invitational, Randolph-Macon’s Stith Invitational, and Amherst’s Jack Leaman Invitational. They also finished among the top-three teams in all three of the Violets’ fall tournaments. Senior Tiya Chowdary leads a young team as she will take part in her fourth Liberty League Championship. The Liberty League medalist at her first conference championship (147) in 2023, Chowdary finished among the top 10 last year, placing sixth with a two-day total of 155 (74-81). This season, she was third at the Williams Invitational in September with an opening round of 72 and a second round of 74 for a total score of 146. She most recently placed among the top 10 at Amherst, with a 151 (78-73) for eighth. Rookies Jiayi (Yoyo) Fu and Inha Jun have had breakout seasons in their first year with the Violets. Fu was the team’s top golfer at Carnegie Mellon and Amherst. At Carnegie Mellon, she posted an eight-under 136 (71-65), and she was the runner-up at Amherst with a one-over 145. At Jekyll Island, Jun (78-73-72) and Fu (77-71-75) both compiled a team-best three-round totals of 223 to tie for fifth among 120 golfers. Jun also posted top ten finishes at Carnegie Mellon (8th, 140) and Randolph-Macon (T-10th, 224).

Ithaca is seeking its first conference title since 2021, and the Bombers will be a seasoned team at the 2026 championship. A trio of golfers—junior Helena Winterberg, sophomore Annelise Stencel, and junior Abby Bladen, who finished among the league’s top 20 a year ago, are all back for Ithaca. Winterberg was the team’s top finisher in 2025, tying for 14th (163—79-84). Bladen was one stroke behind with a 164 (84-80) to tie for 16th, and Stencel was 20th with a score of 168 (89-79). The Bombers have won four of six tournament wins this season, and they posted back-to-back tournament victories at the Cortland Martin/Wallace Invitational and Union Spring Invitational over the last two weeks. Stencel was the tournament medalist at Cortland with a score of 153 (78-75). Brianna Morrison will also be a key contributor for the Bombers at her first conference championship. The first-year paced the team at her collegiate tournament debut, the St. Lawrence Invitational in September, with a tie for third, compiling a score of 157 across two rounds (77-80). She most recently tied for a team-best third along with Bladen and Stencel at the Union Spring Invitational. They each shot 78 in the one-round event.

Union will be led by sophomore Iyene Essien, who finished third at the 2025 Liberty League Championship. She opened the championship with a 78 and trimmed four strokes off her 18-hole total in the second round (75) for a two-day total of 153. This season, she earned tournament medalist honors at four events and was among the top-five golfers in eight events so far this season. She is averaging 75.5 strokes per round this season across 14 rounds. Most recently, she won the Union Spring Invitational, carding a two-over 74. At Cortland, she was the runer-up with a two-day score of 154 (80-74). As a team, the Garnet Chargers have posted three tournament runner-up finishes this season.

Vassar heads into the 2026 Liberty League Championship with two of its four golfers from last year’s championship back for the Brewers in junior Olivia Pocat and sophomore Iesha DeSilva. Pocat finished 25th with a two-day score of 173, while DeSilva was 27th a year ago. Pocat’s 2025-26 regular season was highlighted by a top 20 finish at the Cortland Martin/Wallace Invitational, where she tied for 20th. DeSilva was also among the top 20 at Cortland, tying for 18th. DeSilva also finished among the top 10 at Hartford’s Wintonbury Hills Tri-Match (T-10th).

St. Lawrence will be led by its top golfer from a year ago, sophomore Sadie Cumming, who tied for 12th at the 2025 Liberty League Championship after carding a 161. She opened the 2025-26 campaign with a trio of top-three finishes. She was the medalist at the SUNY Poly Invitational with a one-over 74, and she was the runner-up at the Union Fall Invitational with a two-day score of 158 (81-77). Cumming tied for third on her home course at the St. Lawrence Invitational (157—77-80) in September and posted her fourth top-three finish of the year at the Cortland Martin/Wallace Invitational with a two-day score of 156 (79-77) for third.

Caroline Gannon highlights William Smith’s returning players from the 2025 championship. Last April, she tied for 23rd with a two-day total of 172 (84-88). This year, Gannon produced a pair of top-five showings at the Keuka Fall (4th) and Keuka Spring (3rd) Invitationals. Most recently, she placed eighth at the Nazareth Spring Invitational and was 11th among 48 golfers at the Cortland Martin/Wallace Invitational.
