NYU Women’s Golf finishes Third at NCAA Championship

Fu Records Top-10 Finish as Hao and Jun Shoot Under Par in Final Round

PALM DESERT, Calif. — The No. 2-ranked New York University (NYU) women's golf team finished third overall at the 2026 NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championship on Friday at Desert Willow Golf Resort.

The Violets closed out the tournament at 14-over-par overall (1166) after carding a three-under-par team round during Friday's final round. NYU finished behind Emory University (1154, +2) and Carnegie Mellon University (1161, +9) to secure a third-place finish.

"I'm proud of the team's incredible season, winning all four spring tournaments along with the UAA Championship," said Head Coach Brad Johnson.

Jiayi Fu led the Violets throughout the championship and finished sixth overall at 287 and one-under-par for the tournament after entering Friday's final round after tying for third individually through 54 holes. Fu carded a one-over-par (73) during Friday's final round to secure a top-six national finish.

Sonia Hao and Inha Jun each finished tied for 14th overall at 292 (+4). Jun carded a four-under-par of 68 in Friday's final round to climb 21 spots up the leaderboard, while Hao shot a one-under-par of 71.

Tiya Chowdary finished tied for 36th overall at nine-over-par, 297, after shooting a two-over-par 74 in the final round, while Naomi Tan finished tied for 105th overall at 308.

The NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championship field was reduced to the top 15 teams and six individuals following Wednesday's second-round cut. NYU comfortably advanced into the final two rounds and remained inside the top three throughout the remainder of the championship.

The third-place national finish caps off another strong season for the Violets, who entered the championship ranked No. 2 in the country after winning the Liberty League Championship earlier this month. With a young roster returning next season, NYU will look to build on another impressive run at the national championship.

"While our third-place finish at Nationals was a tremendous accomplishment, it has only fueled our determination to work even harder and pursue the National Championship next year," Johnson said.
