Sophomore Emmett Hansen of the University of Rochester men's track and field team has qualified for the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championship and will represent the Yellowjackets in the heptathlon.
Hansen is making his first NCAA appearance. The 2026 championships are set to take place at the Birmingham Crossplex in Birmingham, Alabama, on March 13-14.
The sophomore qualified for the NCAA Championships with a score of 4,908 points (4,932 converted score) set back in late January at the Ithaca Bomber Invitational. That score has Hansen seeded 17th in the heptathlon field.
At the indoor championships, Rochester will be represented for the seventh straight time, with four of those appearances being heptathletes. Overall, Hansen will be the fifth heptathlete to compete at nationals, which will tie that event for the most Yellowjacket qualifiers at the NCAA indoor meet.
The heptathlon competition takes place over both days at the NCAA meet. It begins on Friday the 13th with the 60 meters at 10 am. The remaining day one events are the long jump, shot put and high jump.
On Saturday, Hansen will compete in the 60-meter hurdles, again starting at 10 am. He closes out the competition with the pole vault and 1,000 meters.
At the NCAA Championships, the top-20 declared athletes on the Division III performance list qualify, with the top-16 finishers earning All-America status. The top-8 scorers will be First Team All-Americans, while 9th through 16th receive Second Team accolades.
