Liberty League announces 2024-25 Women's Golf award recipients

The 2025 Women's Golf major awards (Player, Rookie, and Coaching Staff) are based on a vote by the conference's head coaches. All-Liberty League accolades are based on 2025 Liberty League Championship individual finish.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Audrey Wang, Sophomore, Wellesley

Wellesley College sophomore Audrey Wang was selected as the Liberty League Women’s Golf Player of the Year for a second consecutive season. This year, Wang led the Blue to its first-ever Liberty League Championship and was the medalist at the event with back-to-back rounds of 73 to finish with a two-round score of 146. Wang also posted individual victories at the Jekyll Island Invitational and tied for first at the Hamilton Invitational. At Jekyll Island, she was first among 120 golfers with a three round total of 216 (75-71-70). Her final two days at the tournament was a program-record for a 36-hole consecutive day score of 141. At Hamilton, she shot a 151 with rounds of 76 and 75 to tie for top honors. Wang is currently first among Region II golfers in the latest Scoreboard/Clippd rankings and is 15th in Division III.

ROOKIE OF THE YEAR: Iyene Essien, Union College

Union College first-year Iyene Essien was named the 2024-25 Liberty League Women’s Golf Rookie of the Year. Essien had a breakout season with the Garnet Chargers, highlighted by a pair of individual victories and placing among the top five in seven of eight events. She opened her collegiate career with medalist honors at the St. Lawrence Invitational with rounds of 70 and 81. Her day one total of 70 was a single-round school record by five strokes and the two-day score of 151 was also a program record. Essien was the medalist at the St. Anselm Invitational to open the spring portion of the 2024-25 season. She carded back-to-back rounds of 77 to finish with a 154. She capped off the 2024-25 campaign with a third-place finish at the 2025 Liberty League Championship with a score of 151. She opened the tournament with a 78 and trimmed three strokes off her score on day two to close with a 73.  Essien averaged 77.27 strokes per round over eight events (15 rounds) this year and recorded five of Union’s lowest rounds of the year.

COACHING STAFF OF THE YEAR: Wellesley College – Jackie Beck, Head Coach; Assistant Coach Mike Marchitto

Wellesley College head coach Jackie Beck and assistant coach Matt Marchitto was recognized as the Liberty League Coaching Staff of the Year. During the 2024-25 campaign, they directed the Blue to five tournament victories, including the program’s first Liberty League Championship title, and a pair of runner-up finishes. At the Liberty League Championship, the Blue totaled a team score of 612, finishing six strokes ahead of the runner-up. All five golfers earned All-Liberty League honors and finished among the top 11. The Blue also won the George Phinney Classic, Williams Invitational, Hamilton Invitational, and Williams Spring Invitational this season. With the team victory at the conference championship, Wellesley earned a trip to its first-ever NCAA Division III Women’s Golf Championship.
