MIDDLETOWN, CONN. – The Ithaca College Field Hockey team saw its 2024 season come to an end in the first round of the NCAA Division III Championship with a 2-0 loss to Wesleyan University at Hicks Field on November 13. Ithaca finishes the season with a 15-6 record.
Wesleyan earned the first corner of the game with 5:27 to go in the opening period and the ensuing shot was saved by Maeve Clark. With less than two minutes remaining in the quarter, Brooke Snider made a defensive save on a shot that snuck past Clark. Ainsley Grant took Ithaca's only shot of the quarter, which was saved.
The Cardinals took a 1-0 lead early in the second quarter as Teddy Tolbert took a pass from Kenzie Kelly just 3:16 into the period and beat Clark with a high strike over the blocker into the top left corner of cage. Ithaca had multiple chances later in the quarter as the Bombers earned three consecutive corners, but each shot that followed was blocked and Ithaca went into halftime down by a goal.
Ithaca outshot Wesleyan, 5-3, in the half.
The score remained at 1-0 after the third quarter despite Wesleyan dominating possession for a majority of the 15 minutes by outshooting the Bombers, 7-1, but Clark made five saves.
Wesleyan tacked on an insurance goal with 6:16 left in the fourth quarter off a corner attempt. The insert to the top went to a stopper and sent to the right and back to the center to catch the Ithaca defense out of position.
The Cardinals outshot Ithaca, 15-8, in the game, while corners were even at 7-7.
Clark finished the evening with eight saves.
