Three from NYU women’s golf tabbed WGCA All-Region; Aliea Clark garners WGCA All-America honor

The Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) named three NYU women’s golfers to the All-Region 1 Team—Nalinda Wanikpun, Madison Phung and Michelle Zhou to the All-Region 1 Team.

NYU, the 2022 Liberty League Champions competed at the 2022 NCAA Championship, where they finished in eighth as a team. NYU graduate student Aliea Clark had an individual finish of fifth overall (71-71-77-72) and earned WGCA All-America Honorable Mention recognition.

Wanikpun finished in the top-10 in five tournaments this season, including four top-five results. She tied for the lead at both the Jack Leaman Invitational (147, 73-74) and the George Phinney Golf Classic (152, 75-77), and took third at the Liberty League Championship (151, 74-77) and St. Lawrence Invitational (143, 70-73). She finished the 2022 season with a 327 at the NCAA Championship (81-82-84-80).

Zhou boasted an average score of 77.0 through the regular season over 14 rounds in her debut season, highlighted by a tie for first at the St. Lawrence Invitational in the fall. She finished second on the team at the NCAA Championship with a four-round score of 300 (73-77-78-72), good for a tie for 21st overall.

Phung averaged a 78.06 across 17 rounds during the regular season as a first-year with the Violets, tied with Zhou as medalist at St. Lawrence. She was third on the team at the NCAA Championship with a score of 314 (T-48; 80-83-82-69).

Clark has quickly made her mark on the women's team following her transfer from UCLA. In addition to her top-five showing at the NCAA Championship, the graduate student won two of her five tournaments this spring, besting the field at the Liberty League Championship (149, 78-71) and Vassar College Invitational (148, 74-74). She also finished tied for fourth at the Jack Leaman Invitational with a score of 150 (77-73).
