MEDFORD, Mass. - The St. Lawrence women's lacrosse team ended their historic season with a 20-5 loss in the second round of the NCAA tournament to Tufts University on Sunday afternoon.
After a scoreless opening five minutes, sophomore Bella Hillman broke the deadlock. Following a Tufts turnover forced by Maggie Green, the Saints had time to set up their offense, and the sophomore attacker buried the shot.
The Jumbos responded with five straight. Morgan Arakelian drew a foul, and after her initial shot was saved she got her own rebound and put it in the cage to make it 5-2.
Tufts scored off of the opening draw to get the lead back up to four. Up 6-2 Tufts again won the draw, but Raelynn Bovenzi saved the free position shot, and Dana Fernandez picked up the ground ball and got it into their offensive half. Isabel Silvia drew a foul, and scored off of the free position shot to make it 3-6.
The Jumbos closed the half with three straight to hold a 9-3 lead. They started the second half with five straight to jump out to a 14-3 lead, before their run was stopped by another Silvia free position goal, her 50th of the season. Callie O'Neil cut the Saints' deficit to single digits two minutes later, but that is as close as the gap would get before ultimately falling to Tufts 20-5.
The Jumbos outshot the Saints 45-20, won 20 draw controls to St. Lawrence's nine.
Bovenzi made 10 saves in nearly 41 minutes, and Courtney Lynn made three in the final 19 minutes.

"We didn't get the result we wanted today but I am so proud of the team. They never gave up and kept battling until the last whistle. They have showed so much resiliency throughout the season and they showed it again out there today. I am so proud of all they have accomplished."
