William Smith senior goalie Maura Smeader was named an Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division III third team All-American. She was one of 57 student-athletes to earn a spot on the 2025 IWLCA Division III All-American teams.
Smeader started all 19 games and played all but 15 minutes in goal for the Herons this season. She finished her senior campaign with a 14-5 overall record with a 7.47 GAA and a .487 save percentage. Smeader finished the year 14th in the nation in GAA. She led the Liberty League in save percentage. Smeader also led the Herons with 38 ground balls.
Smeader made 10 or more saves four times this season. She made a season-high 12 stops in a 13-4 victory over St. Lawrence. Smeader made 11 saves at Salisbury and made 10 saves in wins over Skidmore and Geneseo. She picked up a season-high five ground balls against the Knights and Franklin and Marshall. Smeader was named the Liberty League Defensive Performer of the Week following William Smith's win over Cortland.
A four-year starter, Smeader picks up her fifth All-American honor in her career. The Wilmington, Delaware, native has been recognized by USA Lacrosse Magazine as an All-American in all four of her seasons in green and white. Smeader started 83 games during her career, posting a 71-12 overall record with a 7.38 GAA and a .478 save percentage. She set the William Smith career wins record in the Herons' victory over the Red Dragons. Smeader finished her career third on William Smith's career list in saves (533) and eighth in GAA.
Smeader's impressive resume also includes earning IWLCA All-Empire Region recognition twice and All-Liberty League praise four times. She was named to the Liberty League All-Academic team three times and is a two-time College Sports Communicators Academic All-American.
William Smith finished the year with a 14-5 overall record. The Herons were edged by York (Pa.) 11-8 in the third round of the NCAA tournament. William Smith went 9-0 in Liberty League play and captured the Liberty League regular season title.
