Skidmore Women's Tennis takes down Union, 4-2; Thoroughbreds advance to Liberty League Semifinals

ITHACA, N.Y. – The fourth-seeded Skidmore College women's tennis team took down fifth-seeded Union College, 4-2, in the first round of the Liberty League Tournament hosted at Cornell on Friday afternoon.

The Thoroughbreds (6-13) secured the doubles point before winning at No. 1, 2 and 3 singles to take down the Garnet Chargers (6-12) and advance onto the semifinals round.

DOUBLES MATCHES
  • The Thoroughbreds clinched the doubles point after the second doubles pairing of Ellie Lake/Maggie English took down the Garnet Chargers duo of Claire Langille/Skylar Semon 7-5, while the third doubles duo of Ruth Wilson/Mia Rosenberg cruised to a 6-3 win over Union's Sydney Alphabet/Jenny Park.
  • The first doubles matchup between Skidmore's Ginevra Muratori/Amelie Gonzalez and Union's Kennedy Alexis/Chara Meidani was left unfinished with the latter duo leading 6-5 at the point doubles was completed.
SINGLES MATCHES
  • At first singles, first year Ginevra Muratori conceded just three games in a straight sets victory over Union's Skylar Semon.
  • At second singles, freshman Amelie Gonzalez came out on top in a competitive 6-4, 6-4 win over the Garnet Chargers' Chara Meidani.
  • At third singles, first year Ellie Lake clutched out a first set win in tiebreaks 7-6 (7-2), before completing the straight sets win over Union's Claire Langille in 6-2 fashion in set two.
  • At fourth singles, sophomore Maggie English trailed in the third set 2-0 against Union's Sydney Alphabet before it was left unfinished. The sophomore lost the first set 6-2, before bouncing back with a 6-2 second set win to force the tiebreak third set.
  • At fifth singles, freshman Mia Rosenberg fell 6-2, 6-2 to Union's Megan McCusker.
  • At sixth singles, junior Ruth Wilson fell 6-1, 6-0 to the Garnet Chargers' Kennedy Alexis.
