Skidmore's Muratori and Gonzalez compete at NCAA Championships

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Skidmore College first-years Ginevra Muratori and Amelie Gonzalez competed Friday at the NCAA DIII Women's Tennis Individual Championships. Muratori advanced to the second round of the singles bracket, while the duo came up short in the first round of doubles competition despite a second-set push.
  • Muratori advanced to the Round of 16 with an opening-round singles win over Lola Diaz of Swarthmore. Muratori rode three breaks to a 6-1 first-set win, and got two more in the second to close it out 6-2.
  • Later in the afternoon, she dropped a 6-4, 6-2 second-round match to the fourth-seeded Sarena Biria of Chicago.
 
  • In doubles, Muratori and Gonzalez shook off a slow start to go to a tiebreak in set two. They led, 6-4, and had set point, before their opponents from Johns Hopkins rattled off five out of last six points to end it.
  • Muratori, the ITA Northeast Regional champ, in addition to the Liberty League Player and Rookie of the Year, finishes her outstanding debut season with a 22-10 singles record.
  • Together, the tandem finishes the year 18-12.
