Hobart's Barrientos set to dive at NCAA National Championships this week

Senior diver Daniel Barrientos will represent the Hobart swimming and diving team on the national stage as he competes at the 2026 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving National Championships this week, March 18-20, at the Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis, Indiana. This is his second straight appearance at the national championships.

Men's 3-meter diving is scheduled for Wednesday, March 18, with the preliminary rounds set to begin at 1 p.m., while the finals take place at 6 p.m. The 1-meter diving competition is set for Friday, March 20, with the same start times as Wednesday.

Barrientos qualified for the national championships after competing against the top 12 divers in the region at RIT's Judson Pool Feb. 27-28. He was one of four divers that qualified from the Northeast Regionals site that will compete in the 24-diver field looking to be crowned the nation's top diver. At the NCAA Diving Regional Championships, Barrientos placed fourth from the 3-meter board with a score of 502.25. He then went on to finish eighth from the 1-meter board with a score of 403.05.

The Fulshear, Texas, native, Barrientos has had a standout senior season that saw him named the Liberty League Diver of the Week once and to the Liberty League Weekly Honor Roll four times. His season was highlighted by his first career Liberty League title as he claimed the 3-meter title at the 2026 Liberty League Championships. Barrientos' record breaking 11-dive performance earned a score of 608.25, shattering the Hobart program record, the Ithaca pool record, the Liberty League Championship record and the Association record. He then went on to place third from the 1-meter board with a score of 512.45 to wrap up the conference championships.

At last year's national championships, Barrientos secured All-American status from the 3-meter board after finishing 15th overall in the 24-diver field. In the 11-dive competition, Barrientos combined for a score of 429.30 in the preliminary round, qualifying for the consolation final later that day. He then combined for a score of 437.15 in the finals to place 15th overall and a spot on the All-American Second Team. He was the first Statesman diver to be named an All-American since Peter Taylor '92 was in 1992.
