DAY 2 RESULTS

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Liberty League Swimming and Diving Championships continued Thursday at the Kelsey Partridge Bird Natatorium at Ithaca College with five women's events and four men's events.

WOMEN: 1. Ithaca 874; 2. RPI 623; 3. Skidmore 459; 4. RIT 440; 5. Vassar 406; 6. Union 252; 7. Clarkson 168; 8. St. Lawrence 149; 9. William Smith 144; 10. Bard 34.

MEN
  • Leading by 62.5 points after the first day, Ithaca increased its lead on Day 2 over second-place RIT. With 863 points, the Bombers extended their lead to 88.5 points ahead of the Tigers (774.5).
  • RPI junior Jason Weller opened Thursday evening's session by winning the 200-yard freestyle in an NCAA B-cut time of 1:39.33. Weller held off Ithaca senior Ryan Cooke (1:39.97), who had closed the gap over the final 50 yards.
  • Ithaca graduate student Matt Mitros won the 100-yard butterfly, also recording an NCAA B-cut time of 48.38. Mitros, seeded second going into the final, reduced his prelim time 49.69 by more than a second while edging Union senior Drew Hill (49.09).
  • Ithaca first-year swimmer Ben Lajoie picked up the victory in the 400-yard individual medley, finishing in 4:05.21. Lajoie managed to shave more than four seconds off his morning prelim time of 4:09.33 while capturing the championship by more than a second over Clarkson junior Owen White, who touched the wall in 4:06.33.
  • Ithaca picked up a relay victory for the second straight night, capturing the 200-yard freestyle relay with an NCAA B-cut time of 1:21.27. The Bomber team of graduate student Matt Mitros, junior Alec Kutsner, senior Ryan Cooke, and sophomore Spencer Alderson led wire to wire, beating out runner-up RIT by nearly a second (1:22.24).
WOMEN
  • Like the Ithaca men, the Bomber women's team extended its lead from the first night. Ithaca (874), leading by 118 after Day 1, increased its lead to 251 points over second-place RPI (623).
  • RPI junior Sierra Pargett swam to victory in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:53.18. Pargett, the top-seeded swimmer in the finals, was one of four swimmers to finish under 1:54. She held off a late charge from Vassar senior Addie Wiener, who finished second in 1:53.71.
  • Ithaca junior Kathleen Papiernik won the 100-yard butterfly for the third straight year, posting a championship and association record time of 55.32. Papiernik, who finished more than a second ahead of sophomore teammate Elizabeth Bodie (56.37), broke her championship record of 55.70 set last year. She smashed the association record of 55.47 set by Sedera Zbranak of RIT in 2019.
  • Ithaca first-year swimmer Erika Doran picked up her first championship victory after cruising to the win in the 400-yard individual medley in 4:35.18. Doran, the top-seeded swimmer in the finals, won by more than five seconds over RPI junior Ellie Tandlemayer (4:40.56).
  • RIT junior Gwen Petrie won the 1-meter diving event with a finals score of 465. Petrie, who posted a score of 463.5 in the prelims, recorded an 18.1-point victory over Ithaca first-year diver Madison Morris.
  • The Ithaca 200-yard freestyle relay team, consisting of senior Elke Beaumont, junior Jillian Wedding, junior Samantha Bender, and junior Spencer Carroll, recorded an NCAA B-cut time of 1:34.71, winning by just over a second ahead of runner-up RPI (1:35.73).
