Ithaca Women’s Rowing finishes Fifth at NCAA Division III Championships

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – The Ithaca College women's rowing team finished in fifth-place as a team after both the Varsity Eight and Second Varsity Eight competed in the respective Grand Finals at the NCAA Division III Championships on Saturday morning. Tufts won its second-straight National Championship as they won both races for a total of 56 points at Lake Mercer.
 
Wiliams College was the runner-up with 49 points, Wesleyan earned bronze with 45 points, followed by Bates College (44), Ithaca (34), Wellesley (30) St. Mary's College of Maryland (29) and Pacific Lutheran University (21) rounded out the eight-team field.
 
The Ithaca Varsity Eight was coxed by Caroline Hoskins and in the boat was Lily Babcock, Emma Hammel, Maggie Farber, Zoe Paradis Stern, Kai Lincke, Ashley Bailey, Samantha Gallagher and Beth Roberts. In a super competitive race, the Bombers crew was 6.942 seconds off the pace as they scored a sixth-place result and time of 6:44.628. Tufts crew rowed in lane four and bested Williams with a time of 6:37.686, followed by the Ephs who crossed the finish line in 6:44.628.
 
For the second-straight day the 2V8 lineup consisted of Hope Oliveira, Carys Owen, Calla Bobak, Claire Edwards, Anna Capodilupo, Julia DiCostanzo, Emma Thorne, Emmeline Robinson and Smeena Gill. The Bombers crew was narrowly edged out by Wellesley to take sixth. The two boats were in lock step of one another the entire way, with Wellesley narrowly clipping Ithaca in the final 500 meters as they timed in at 7:08.413 and 7:08.735. The Tufts 2V8 crew would win the Grand Final by over a five second margin and time of 6:47.335.
