Ithaca Women’s Rowing Slated to Compete in the NCAA Championship Regatta

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's rowing team will once again head to the NCAA Division III Championship Regatta as the Bombers earned an automatic bid, as announced on the selection show on NCAA.com on Tuesday, May 13. The Bombers are slated to make their 23rd appearance and earned an automatic bid after winning the Liberty League Championship earlier this month in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

Eight teams were selected for the 2025 DIII rowing championships, with each team consisting of two boats (first varsity and second varsity). NESCAC champion Tufts, Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference champion St. Mary's College (Md.), Liberty League winner Ithaca College and New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference champion Wellesley College earned automatic berths. Pool C (at-large) berths were received by Pacific Lutheran University and NESCAC's Bates College, Wesleyan University and Williams College.

The Bombers are sending both their first and second varsity eights. In addition, spares will accompany the team and make the trip. The student-athletes who are expected to make the trip for Ithaca to the championship are: Caroline Hoskins, Lily Babcock, Emma Hammel, Maggie Farber, Zoe Paradis Stern, Kai Lincke, Ashley Bailey, Samantha Gallagher, Beth Roberts, Smeena Gill, Emmeline Robinson, Emma Thorne, Julia DiCostanzo, Anna Capodilupo, Claire Edwards, Calla Bobak, Carys Owen and Hope Oliveira.

Ithaca's History at the NCAA Championship
The first ever NCAA Championship for women's rowing was held back in 1997 and this will be the 28th NCAA women's championship.  At the time, the championship was not separated by division due to lack of numbers across DII and DIII teams. IC was selected to the first ever championship and raced a four in Sacramento, California.

In 2002 there were enough rowing programs at each divisional level that the championship could be separated by division but continued to run as one regatta. Ithaca won the NCAA Championship in 2006.

Since the win in 2006, the Bombers have continued to compete at a very high level. Given the nature of DIII women's rowing and the changing competition field, the Bombers have continued to compete for a spot in the top-4 year-after-year. IC is second among DIII teams in total appearances at 23 with Williams College the only institution to have made more appearances at 24.

At last year's NCAA Championship, the 1V8 earned a fifth-place finish behind Tufts, while the 2V8 finished sixth in the grand final, which was won by Williams College. Tufts is the defending NCAA champion, winning their first national title last year in Bethel Ohio.
