Following a vote by the league's head coaches, the Liberty League has announced the 2024-25 Men's Golf major award winners and All-League teams.
PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Shibo Wang, Sophomore, University of Rochester
University of Rochester sophomore Shibo Wang was selected as the 2024-25 Liberty League Men’s Golf Player of the Year. Through the regular season and conference tournament, he holds a 73.08 scoring average across 19.5 rounds. His season was highlighted by earning medalist honors at the Farmingdale Spring Invite, where he carded an under-par total of 139 (70-69) for the 36-hole event. He also finished 10th among 120 golfers at the Golfweek October Classic with a three-round total of 208 (69-70-69). Wang was a team-best 22nd at the Jekyll Island Invitational in March, shooting 217 in three rounds (75-69-73). At the Liberty League Championship, he recorded a score of 185 (74-35-76) in two and a half rounds, tying for 12th overall. Wang has had eight rounds at or below par this year and is the top Region II golfer in the latest Scoreboard/Clipped individual rankings.
ROOKIE OF THE YEAR: Luke Evans, University of Rochester
University of Rochester first-year Luke Evans was recognized as the 2024-25 Liberty League Men’s Golf Rookie of the Year. Evans competed in all nine events for the Yellowjackets this season through the regular season and conference tournament and is averaging 73.38 strokes per round. He tied for the team lead with 10 rounds at or below bar, and his best round was at the Farmingdale Spring Invite, where he carded a 67 in Round One. Evans was the top golfer at the 2025 Liberty League Championship finishing the two and a half rounds with a total score of 176 (68-37-71) to earn medalist honors by one stroke. He also finished fifth at the Farmingdale Spring Invite with a two-round total of 141 (67-74). Evans, a two-time Liberty League Rookie of the Week, placed among the top 15 at the Northeast Elite Invite (T-11th, 143) and Rochester’s own Fred Kravetz Invite (T-8th, 147).
COACHING STAFF OF THE YEAR: University of Rochester – Dan Wesley, Head Coach; Assistant Coaches Ben Harmon and George W. VanderZwaag
University of Rochester head coach Dan Wesley along with assistant coaches Ben Harmon and George W. VanderZwagg were named the 2024-25 Liberty League Men’s Golf Coaching Staff of the Year. Wesley and his staff directed the Yellowjackets to their second straight Liberty League Championship victory, earning back-to-back Liberty League titles for the first time in program history. The Yellowjackets closed out the 2025 championship with 711 total strokes, including a team score of 283 during the final round. Rochester will be making the program’s 25th appearance in the NCAA Championship. This season, the team shattered its single-season team scoring average record, averaging 291.54 strokes per round in 2024-25. That mark is nine strokes better than the previous team record of 300.6 set in 2019-20. Rochester is currently the top team in Region II in the latest Scoreboard/Clippd rankings and the Yellowjackets are 25th in Division III entering the 2025 NCAA Division III Championship (May 20-23).
