Trio from Liberty League Field Hockey garner NFHCA All-America honors

Three Liberty League field hockey players were named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III All-America teams following the 2025 season. Union College junior forward Maddie Greco earned second-team honors, while Vassar College senior midfielder Sofia Beseth and University of Rochester senior goalie Kara Houston were selected to the third team.

NFHCA All-America Second Team – Liberty League Honorees

Maddie Greco, Junior, Forward, Union

This is Greco’s second time garnering All-America accolades; she was also named to the NFHCA second team in 2024. Greco, the two-time Liberty League Player of the Year, started all 21 games and remained Union’s top offensive threat this season, totaling a team-high 16 goals, eight assists, and 40 points in just 670 minutes of play. She led the league with 53 shots on goal (2.5 per game) and tied for the Liberty League lead in points and assists. In addition, she was ranked second among league leaders in goals, goals per game (.762), assists per game (.381), and points per game (1.90). Greco also recorded four game-winning goals, which tied her for second in the conference. She scored at least one goal in 10 contests and tallied at least one point in 15 games. In two Liberty League tournament games, Greco registered five points (1G, 3A) as the Garnet Chargers, who earned a share of the regular-season title for the second consecutive year, won their first-ever conference postseason game and advanced to their first conference championship game to close out 2025.

NFHCA All-America Third Team – Liberty League Honorees

Sofia Beseth, Senior, Midfielder, Vassar College

Beseth was a steady presence in the midfield for the Brewers, appearing in and starting 19 of Vassar’s 20 games this season. Offensively, she recorded seven goals and four assists for 18 points, finishing third on the team in points, third in goals, and second in assists. Among league leaders, Beseth tied for 10th in both goals and total points, ranked 10th in points per game (0.95), and was 11th in goals per game (0.368). Over her four-year career at Vassar, Beseth tallied six game-winning goals, tying her for fourth all-time in program history. She also concluded her career ranked sixth all-time in goals (23), tied for 10th in total points (53), and placed among the program’s top 10 in career points per game at 0.78.

Kara Houston, Senior, Goalie, University of Rochester

Houston, the 2025 Liberty League Defenisve Player of the Year, started all 21 games for the Yellowjackets this season. She logged 1,255 minutes in goal and compiled a 13-7 record with a league-best 0.903 goals against average and .868 save percentage. She limited all of Rochester’s losses to one-goal decisions and helped the Yellowjackets go 5-4 in eight overtime games, including a 3-1 mark in games that went to a penalty stroke shootout. Houston was also a key factor in helping the Yellowjackets secure their 13th consecutive Liberty League tournament appearance. A five-time Liberty League Defensive Performer of the Week selection, Houston tied for the league lead in shutouts with five. She led the conference in saves (122) and ranked second in saves per game (6.10). Nationally among Division III goalkeepers, she closed out the year fourth in save percentage and 12th in goals against average. A four-year starter for Rochester, Houston played in 79 career games, recorded 333 saves (4.2 per game), while posting a 0.85 goals against average, and a .833 save percentage.
