Following a vote by the conference's eight head coaches, the Liberty League has revealed the 2025 Field Hockey Major Awards and All-League teams.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Maddie Greco, Junior, Forward, Union College
For the second consecutive season, Union College forward Maddie Greco was named the Liberty League Offensive Player of the Year. This marks Greco’s third Liberty League major award; she was also recognized as the Liberty League Rookie of the Year in 2023. This year, Greco started all 21 games and remained Union’s top offensive threat, totaling a team-high 16 goals, eight assists, and 40 points in just 670 minutes of play. She led the league with 53 shots on goal (2.52 per game) and tied for the Liberty League lead in points and assists. She ranked second in goals, goals per game (.762), assists per game (.381), and points per game (1.90). Greco also recorded four game-winning goals, which tied her for second in the conference. She scored at least one goal in 10 contests and tallied at least one point in 15 games. In two Liberty League tournament games, Greco registered five points—one goal and three assists—as the No. 2-seeded Garnet Chargers, who earned a share of the regular-season title for the second consecutive year, won their first-ever conference postseason game and advanced to their first conference championship game to close out 2025.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Kara Houston, Senior, Goalkeeper, University of Rochester
University of Rochester senior goalkeeper Kara Houston was selected as the Liberty League Defensive Player of the Year, becoming the first Yellowjacket since 2022 to earn the distinction. She is also the first Liberty League goalie to receive the honor since 2019. Houston started all 21 games this season, logging 1,255 minutes in goal and compiling a 13-7 record with a league-best 0.903 goals against average and .868 save percentage. She limited all of Rochester’s losses to one-goal defeats and helped the Yellowjackets go 5-4 in eight overtime games, including a 3-1 mark in games that went to a penalty stroke shootout. Houston was also a key factor in helping the Yellowjackets secure their 13th consecutive Liberty League tournament appearance. A five-time Liberty League Defensive Performer of the Week selection, Houston tied for the league lead in shutouts with five. She led the conference in saves (122) and ranked second in saves per game (6.10). Nationally among Division III goalkeepers, she ranks fourth in save percentage and 15th in goals against average. A four-year starter for Rochester, Houston played in 79 career games, finishing with 333 saves (4.2 per game), a 0.85 goals against average, and a .833 save percentage.
ROOKIE OF THE YEAR: Erin Foley, Midfielder, University of Rochester
For the third time since 2022, a University of Rochester first-year player has been named Liberty League Rookie of the Year, with Erin Foley earning the 2025 honor after missing the 2024 season due to a knee injury. Foley bounced back in 2025, making 16 starts and finishing as the team’s leading scorer with six goals and two assists for 14 points. Among Liberty League leaders, she tied for ninth in shots on goal (27) and ranked 11th in shots per game (1.35). Foley helped the Yellowjackets secure their 13th consecutive Liberty League tournament appearance and finish the year at 13-7 overall.
COACHING STAFF OF THE YEAR: Vassar College – Annie Fowler, Head Coach; Assistant Coaches Cari Meltzer, Josie Skelley, Cat Hare, and student assistant Sydney Kovel
Vassar College head coach Annie Fowler and her assistant coaches were named the Liberty League Coaching Staff of the Year after guiding the Brewers to an 11-6 overall record and a 5-2 mark in conference play. Picked to finish in a tie for sixth in the Liberty League preseason poll (and earning one first-place vote), the Brewers exceeded expectations—improving their win total by seven from 2024, including four additional league victories—to capture a share of the Liberty League regular-season title and earn the top seed in the conference tournament. In the Liberty League tournament Vassar extended its win streak to five straight with victories in both the semifinal and championship rounds. The Brewers claimed their first Liberty League title since 2021 with a 4-2 win in the championship final and earned the league’s automatic berth to the NCAA Championship. Vassar will face Williams on the road in the first round on November 12.
