Liberty League announces 2023-24 Men's Golf Awards

Following a vote by the league's head coaches, the Liberty League has announced the 2023-24 Men's Golf major award winners and All-League teams.
 

Player of the Year: Jimmy King, Sophomore, St. Lawrence University

St. Lawrence University sophomore Jimmy King was named the 2023-24 Liberty League Men’s Golf Player of the Year. He was the individual medalist at this spring’s Liberty League Championship after recording a three-day score of 214 (-2; 73-69-72) to tie for first overall and winning on the second playoff hole as he helped lead the Saints to a second-place finish. Through 19 rounds this season, he averaged 73.7 strokes per round. King was the team’s lowest scorer in six of ten events and was also the medalist at the Oswego Invitational in October with a two-round total of 147 (+5; 72-75). He led St. Lawrence to three tournament wins this season (Clarkson Invitational, Oswego Invitational, and Alvernia Spring Invitational) and a trio of runner-up performances (St. Lawrence Invitational, Farmingdale Spring Invitational, Liberty League Championship).

Rookie of the Year: Jomyuth Luangtana-anan, NYU

New York University first-year Jomyuth Luangtana-anan earned Liberty League Men’s Golf Rookie of the Year honors. He paced the Violets in scoring average this year (74.5 strokes per round) through 20 rounds and closed out the 2023-24 campaign ranked fifth regionally in Division III (Region II). He finished among the top-three in three events and was the individual medalist at the Bowdoin Invitational in September with a two-round score of 140 (-4; 73-67). He was third at the Farmingdale Spring Invitational with a score of 142 (+2; 71-71) and third at Middlebury’s Duke Nelson Invitational, where he shot an even par score of 142 (73-69). At the Liberty League Championship, he finished among the top-20, tying for19th with a three-day score of 226 (78-72-76). 

Coaching Staff of the Year: University of Rochester – Dan Wesley, Head Coach; Assistant Coaches Ben Harmon and George W. VanderZwaag

University of Rochester head coach Dan Wesley and his staff guided the Yellowjackets to their first Liberty League title since 2016-17 as the team finished with a three-day score of 870 at the 2024 championship, with two 1-under par rounds (287; 2nd & 3rd) and won by three strokes. With the league title, Rochester earned the conference’s automatic bid to the 2024 NCAA Division III tournament and the Yellowjackets will be making their 24th overall trip as well as first team appearance since 2017. This season Rochester also won the St. John Fisher Invitational and the Yellowjackets were among the top four in three other tournaments (Hampden-Sydney 7 Lakes Invite, Hershey Cup, Fred Kravetz Invitational). As a team, Rochester is currently ranked 36th in Division III and first in Region II.
