VERONA, N.Y. – The New York University men's golf team won its second-straight Liberty League Championship behind a standout performance from freshman Chris Lee. The three-round event took place on Friday-Sunday, April 26-28, at the Kaluhyat Course at the Turning Stone Resort.

Lee, one of three Violets to finish among the top 10, won the individual title by shooting a three-round score of 227 (73-80-74). The Palisades Park, N.J., native helped the Violets win the seven-team event by 16 strokes.

"Chris was awesome for us this weekend," said head coach Brad Johnson. "He was one of a few of our guys to play well and now we'll take this momentum into next month's NCAA Championship."

NYU compiled a three-round total of 937. The University of Rochester (953) and Clarkson University (954) finished second and third respectively. The Violets led following all three rounds. NYU opened with a 306 on Friday, good for a three-shot lead over Clarkson and Rensselaer. Despite challenging weather conditions on Saturday that included temperatures in the upper 30's along with strong winds and a mix of rain and snow, the Violets expanded their lead to six shots.

Lee was joined by classmate Joseph Burlison (third; 234) and Matt Shen (eighth; 238) in the top 10 at the 35-player event.

Clarkson senior Thomas Conroy shot 76-80-74 (230) to finish as the tournament's runner-up. A trio of players, including Griffin Chenard of RPI, Chris Rust of Clarkson and Aleksander Overli of Rochester, finished tied for fourth at 236.

The Violets will return to the course when they compete for an NCAA Championship for the second-straight year. This year's event will be hosted by Transylvania University from May 14-17 at Keene Trace in Nicholasville, Ky.
