RIT Baseball defeats St. Lawrence in Liberty League Tournament opener, 6-2

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Senior Roberto Reade hit a pair of home runs to lead the top-seeded RIT baseball team past fourth-seeded St. Lawrence, 6-2, in the opening game of the Liberty League Tournament on Thursday. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The visiting Saints got on the board first when Jack Finnegan scored in the top of the first inning after Willie Landman reached on a fielder's choice.
  • In the bottom of the third, senior Jackson Rusiecki singled to right center, brining senior Caelen Kim and junior Evan Kurtz home.
  • Later in the inning, Reade hit a two-run homer over the left field fence to make it a 4-1 Tigers lead.
  • Senior Trent Rapp added to the lead with a solo home run to right field in the fifth inning.
  • In the sixth, Reade hit a solo shot over the left field fence to extend RIT's lead to 6-1.
  • St. Lawrence's Ethan Harris scored in the top of the ninth to bring the final score to 6-2.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Sophomore Ryan Moran improved to 7-0 on the mound after working 6.0 innings, collecting four strikeouts while allowing one run off six hits.
  • Reade finished the game going 3-of-4 at the plate with two runs and three RBIs.
  • Rapp was 2-of-4 with a run and RBI.
  • As a team, the Tigers have hit 45 home runs this season.

The Tigers face Game 2 winners, #3 Hobart, tomorrow in Game 4 at 12:30 p.m. as St. Lawrence takes on #2 RPI in Game 3 tomorrow morning at 9:30 a.m.
