GORHAM, Maine – The RIT baseball team saw its season come to an end with a 9-8 setback to Babson in an elimination game in the NCAA Division III Tournament regional, Sunday.
After falling behind by six runs, the fourth-seeded Tigers rallied to score five runs in the seventh inning, but were unable find a way to get past third-seeded Babson over the final two innings.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Graduate student Max Matteucci hit a two-run homer in the top of the first inning to give the Tigers the early lead.
- Babson responded with six runs in the bottom of the first inning.
- The scoring continued in the second inning when senior Charlie Slymaker hit a solo shot over the fence to cut the Beavers' lead to three, 6-3.
- The Beavers added another run in the bottom of the second to bring the score to 7-3.
- In the sixth inning, Babson extended its lead with two more runs.
- The seventh inning saw RIT score five runs, including a three-run home run by senior Trent Rapp to trail the Beavers by one, 9-8.
- Babson's pitching staff held the Tigers to one hit in the final two innings of the game to hold on for the win.
GAME NOTES
- Rapp's home run was his team-leading eighth of the season and he also finished the season with a team-beat 52 runs.
- Senior Charlie Slaymaker hit a pair of solo home runs in the game for RIT and graduate student Max Matteucci also homered. The duo end the season with five and seven home runs, respectively.
- RIT hit a program-best 52 home runs this season, shattering last year's previous record of 25 homers.
- The Tigers finish the 2026 campaign with a 24-15 record. The 24 wins are tied for second most in program history with the team reaching that mark in the 2006 and 2007 season.
