Union's Tedesco Named to D3hoops.com National Team of the Week

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Junior Tanner Tedesco of the Union College men's basketball team earned his second career spot on the D3hoops.com National Team of the Week for the second week in January, the website announced on Tuesday.

Tedesco is one of three guards from throughout Division III to earn the national recognition after the sophomore averaged 21.0 points, 5.5 assists and 4.0 rebounds per game as Union defeated both of last year's Liberty League Tournament finalists to keep the Garnet Chargers atop the conference standings.

The Voorheesville, N.Y., native tied for the game-high with 25 points to go with five rebounds and four assists in Friday's 76-59 win at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, including a 5-of-10 mark from long range that matched his career high for three-pointers in a game. The junior guard followed up with 16 points (on 6-of-10 shooting) and seven assists in Saturday's 81-73 comeback victory at Ithaca College, with 11 points and four helpers coming in a second half that saw the Garnet Chargers fight back from eight points down to win.

A D3hoops.com All-Region and NABC All-District honoree last season, Tedesco ranks second on the team by averaging 14.4 points per game while his 6.8 assists per contest lead the Liberty League and rank third in Division III. The junior averages a team-best 34.2 minutes per game this year and is shooting a conference-best 45.2 percent (28 of 62) from three-point range. In two-and-a-half seasons on the court for Union, Tedesco already ranks sixth in school history in career assists (383)

Union will kick off a big week of Liberty League matchups tonight with a 7:30 p.m. game against Rochester Institute of Technology at Viniar Athletic Center.
