Liberty League announces 2024-25 Men's Rowing Awards

Following a vote by the conference's head coaches, the Liberty League has announced its major award recipients for Men's Rowing for the 2024-25 season.

CREW OF THE YEAR: Varsity Eight, Ithaca College

The Ithaca College Varsity Eight was named the 2024-25 Liberty League Men’s Rowing Crew of the Year. The Bombers won their second straight Liberty League title in men’s rowing with a victory in the V8+ race at the conference championship. Ithaca jumped out to an early lead and cruised to the V8+ win with a time of 6:35.028, over 20 seconds faster than the runner-up. The Bombers also qualified for the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) National Championship. They were fourth in their first heat at IRAs with a time of 6:01.280 and earned a spot in the petit final. They won the Petite Final against Marietta, crossing the finish line with a time of 6:00.900. Other season highlights included a win in the Knecht Cup Petite Final (6:03.44) and a fifth-place finish at the Remley Cup (7:02.72). The Bombers’ V8+ boat was comprised of Max Detzer, Marshall Adams, Liam Baker, Andrew Coit, Andrew Cheely, Bryce Williston, Riley Maynard, Rhys Pellaton, and Miles Kenaston this season.

COACHING STAFF OF THE YEAR: Ithaca College – Justin Stangel, Head Coach; Assistant Coach Jake Lentz

Ithaca Men’s Rowing Head Coach Justin Stangel and assistant coach Jake Lentz were selected as the Liberty League Coaching Staff of the Year. At the 2025 Liberty League Championship, the Bombers claimed their second consecutive conference title. Ithaca cruised to the win in the V8+ race with a 20 second margin of victory and were one of only two boats to finish with a time under seven minutes at 6:35.028. In the 2V8+, Ithaca had two boats entered among six and they finished one-two. Ithaca A earned the win with a time of 6:54.090 and Ithaca B was not far behind in second at 6:59.614. Ithaca’s V8+ and 2V8+ boats competed at the 2025 IRA National Championship, where the 2V8+ advanced to the Grand Final and V8+ was part of the Petite Final. The 2V8+ placed sixth with a time of 6:21.370 and the V8+ won the Petite Final, crossing the finish line in 6:00.900. 

 

 

All-Liberty League honorees were selected by their coach with the number of honorees from each school based on Varsity 8+ place finish at this year's championship in May.
