RPI Softball Season comes to an end versus Cortland in NCAAs

GLASSBORO, N.J. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) softball team was eliminated from the NCAA Division III Championship with a 10-5 result against Cortland this afternoon.

Sydney Speanburg reached base a team-high three times for the Engineers, as the outfielder had one hit and drew two walks.

Addison Shaffer and Lauren Cosselman tallied a hit apiece, with Shaffer logging a team-high three RBI. Speanburg also drove in a run, as did Callista Adorno.

The Engineers put four on the board in the second inning before another run in third gave RPI a 5-0 lead early.

RPI loaded the bases in the second before Adorno and Shaffer each produced RBI. Adorno had moved each runner up after getting hit by a pitch before Shaffer drove in three with a double into the left field corner.

Speanburg singled home Maddy Brooks an inning later to give RPI its fifth run.

The Engineers advantage did not last long, as the Red Dragons scored five times in the bottom of the third to tie the game at 5-5. Cortland broke things open with four more runs in the fifth.

The Engineers finish the spring with an overall record of 28-13.
