ITHACA, N.Y. – The Liberty League Swimming and Diving Championships continued Thursday at the Kelsey Partridge Bird Natatorium at Ithaca College with five women's events and four men's events.

Highlights from Thursday's championship action:

WOMEN
  • Ithaca College first-year swimmer Claire Weppler cruised to victory in the 400-yard individual medley, finishing in 4:33.78. Weppler finished comfortably ahead of two other first year swimmers. Anna Little from Vassar took second (4:39.46) followed by Corinne Boyle from RPI (4:40.94).
  • Ithaca College sophomore Kathleen Papiernik was a repeat champion in the 100-yard butterfly, finishing in a meet record and NCAA B-cut time of 55.70. She edged RPI senior Colleen Whittaker who took second in 56.12.
  • RPI senior Shannon Brown was also a repeat champion. She won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:52.69, finishing just ahead of sophomore teammate Sierra Pargett who took second in 1:52.75.
  • Ithaca took three of the top four spots in the 1-meter diving event. Senior Kailee Payne was a repeat champion as she crushed the meet and association records with a finals score of 553.65. Payne held both the championship (533.40) and association (536.25) records.
  • The RPI 200-yard freestyle relay consisting of Vera Korff, Sierra Pargett, Colleen Whittaker and Shannon Brown recorded an NCAA B-cut time of 1:34.24, winning the event by more than two seconds over second-place Ithaca (1:36.53). RPI came up just short of the meet record of 1:34.15.
MEN
  • Skidmore College senior Ryan Delfico was a repeat champion in the 400-yard individual medley. The top qualifier in the prelims (4:07.10), Delfico shaved nearly four seconds off his morning time, finishing in 4:03.19. He edged Matthew Janssen of Ithaca (4:04.05) by nearly a second.
  • RIT senior Drew Scheib recorded meet and association records in winning the 100-yard butterfly in 47.60. Scheib, who won the event last year, was the association record-holder in the event with a time of 47.84 set at last year's NCAA championship. His time tonight was also an NCAA B-cut time.
  • RPI graduate student Mike Dowd earned his third straight championship victory in the 200-yard freestyle, winning the event in an NCAA B-cut time of 1:38.36. He broke his own meet and association record of 1:39.41, set at last year's Liberty League championship. Dowd won by more than a second ahead of Ithaca junior Ryan Cooke (1:39.74).
  • The RIT 200-yard freestyle relay team consisting of Mike Atanasoff, Eric Noga, Ryan Clancy and Drew Scheib set a meet and association record with an NCAA B-cut time of 1:20.83. RIT broke the mark of 1:20.85 set last year by Ithaca. Second-place RPI (1:21.05) also recorded a B-cut time.
