Following a vote by the league's head coaches, the Liberty League announced its 2022-23 Men's Tennis Major Awards and All-League teams.
LIBERTY LEAGUE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Brendan Jimenez, Skidmore College, Sr., Lynn, Mass.
Skidmore College senior Brendan Jimenez has been selected as the Liberty League Player of the Year. Jimenez, the top-ranked singles player in NCAA Region II, was selected to the NCAA Division III singles championship in Orlando, Fla. Playing the entire campaign at first singles, Jimenez went 17-9 in singles play (10-6 in dual matches), including a 6-1 record in Liberty League play. He has faced five NCAA singles qualifiers, picking up three wins. In doubles play, Jimenez teamed with first-year player Nika Mori to go 9-7, including a 5-2 record in Liberty League play. Jimenez and Mori were ranked fifth in the NCAA Region II doubles rankings.
LIBERTY LEAGUE ROOKIE OF THE YEAR: Fernando Bauermeister, Vassar College, First Year, Winter Park, Fla.
Vassar College first-year player Fernando Bauermeister earned Rookie of the Year honors after a strong first campaign with the Brewers. Bauermeister assumed the top spot in the Vassar singles lineup, where he compiled an 11-7 dual-match record, including 5-2 in Liberty League play, earning a number-five ranking in NCAA Region II. In doubles play, he teamed with fellow first-year player Nolan Kubiak to go 17-7 overall, including 12-6 in dual matches and 7-1 in Liberty League regular-season play. The duo earned a number-two ranking in Region II and was the top-ranked Liberty League team. Bauermeister earned Liberty League Singles Performer of the Week twice, Rookie of the Week twice and Doubles Performer of the Week four times.
LIBERTY LEAGUE COACHING STAFF OF THE YEAR: Hobart College – Tim Riskie, Head Coach
Hobart College head coach Tim Riskie and his staff earned Liberty League Coaching Staff of the Year honors. Riskie guided the Statesmen to a 16-5 overall record (16-3 in Division III) and a 7-1 mark in Liberty League play. As a team, Hobart was ranked 13th in the ITA Northeast rankings and also earned a number-two team ranking in NCAA Region II. In Liberty League regular-season play, Riskie’s squad combined for a 38-9 record in singles matches and a 19-5 mark in doubles competition. Under his tutelage, junior Sean Pesin earned a berth to the NCAA Division III singles championship, becoming the first Hobart player invited to the singles draw since 1996. Riskie is assisted by Chip Fishback, Dave Dewey and Joe Mallon.
