2022 Liberty League Rowing Championships Results
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – For the 16th consecutive Liberty League Rowing Championships, Hobart College have been crowned conference champions. The Statesmen captured the 2022 Liberty League men’s title on Friday afternoon at Fish Creek on Saratoga Lake by winning the Men’s Varsity Eight race and the team also earned victories in the Men’s Second Varsity Eight and the Men’s Novice Four at this year’s championship.
In the final men’s race of the regatta, the Varsity Eight was a battle as Hobart clinched gold and the conference title by crossing the finish line at 6:01.070; only 3.410 seconds ahead of runner-up Ithaca College. Ithaca recorded a time of 6:04.480 for a second-place finish and St. Lawrence University (6:22.154) earned third place honors. The Saints were followed by Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), Union College and Skidmore College.
In the combined Second Varsity Eight/Novice Eight, Hobart’s Second Varsity Eight squad easily won eclipsing the second-place team by nearly 20 seconds (19.693). The Statesmen recorded a time of 6:22.020 for their first victory at the 2022 championship. University of Rochester’s Novice Eight was second and also earned gold medals as the top novice eight team in the race, finishing with a time of 6:41.713. RIT (2V8; 6:42.359) was third and St. Lawrence (N8; 7:09.068) was fourth.
Hobart’s Novice Four also had a strong showing this afternoon as the Statesmen posted a margin of victory of nearly 20 seconds at 39.324 to earn the N4 win. They clocked in a time of 7:33.070 on the 2,000 meter course.
The University of Rochester also earned gold in the Varsity Four as the Yellowjackets won with a time of 7:19.060 narrowly beating out Union College (7:23.265). Rochester crossed the finish line 4.205 seconds ahead of the Dutchmen. St. Lawrence also competed and finished with a time of 7:42.229.
