As Commissioner of the Liberty League, King oversees all aspects of the 27-sport intercollegiate athletic conference, including planning and budget management, communications, championships administration, scheduling and compliance. He serves as the primary liaison between the league and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), facilitating the relationship as it relates to Liberty League programs.
King has more than 30 years in various communication and administrative roles. He served as the Commissioner of the 11-member Division III Skyline Conference from 2005-2011, took a one-year hiatus from intercollegiate athletics – from October, 2010 to August 2011 – as a Public Relations Officer with the Capital Region BOCES, located in Albany, NY., before rejoining intercollegiate athletics. In his role, King has provided external and internal public relations and communications services for the Niskayuna Central School District through the Capital Region BOCES communication service.

The Liberty League includes founding members Clarkson University, Hobart and William Smith Colleges, the University of Rochester, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, St. Lawrence University, Skidmore College, and Union College. Vassar College became a full member of the league during the 2000-01 academic year and Bard College and Rochester Institute of Technology have joined in the 2011-12 academic year. Ithaca College became the league's 11th full member, joining in 2017-18. Founding member Hamilton College departed following the 2010-11 academic year in order to fully integrate its athletic programs within the New England Small College Athletic Conference.
Under King's leadership, Buffalo State College was added as an associate member in football while New York University and Wellesley College were added as Liberty League associate members in golf while St. John Fisher College joined the league as an associate member in rowing. Through the addition of the associate members, the Liberty League secured NCAA automatic bids in women's golf and women's rowing.
