2012-13 All-Liberty League Women's Basketball
PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Cydni Matsuoka, Jr., G, Vassar College
Vassar College junior guard Cydni Matsuoka was selected as the Liberty League Player of the Year in women’s basketball following a season in which she led the league in five categories. As a guard, Matsuoka posted an impressive .542 field goal percentage that led the Liberty League. She also led the league in assists (5.6 apg), free throw percentage (.891), 3-point field goal percentage (.447) and assist-to-turnover ratio (2.4). Matsuoka ranked second in the Liberty League in scoring (17.4 ppg) while ranking 11th in the nation in assists. She scored her 1,000th career point against Hunter on November 30 in just her 58th career game, making her the fastest in school history to reach that milestone.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Jordyn Wartts, Jr., G, Skidmore College
Skidmore College junior guard Jordyn Wartts was selected as the Liberty League Defensive Player of the Year. Regarded as one of the best on-ball defenders in the league, Wartts was able to defend all three guard positions equally well. She was part of a Skidmore defense that limited Liberty League teams to 53.0 points per game and a .340 field goal percentage. Both marks were tops in Liberty League play. As a guard, Wartts ranked third on the team in rebounding and second in steals.
CO-ROOKIE OF THE YEAR: Ashley Loggins, Fr., F, Clarkson University
Clarkson University freshman forward Ashley Loggins shared Liberty League Rookie of the Year honors with Bard freshman Tytravia Riley. Loggins ranked third in the league in scoring (17.4 ppg) and was tops among freshmen. She also pulled down 10.3 rebounds per game, ranking second in the league. Loggins also logged 34.0 minutes per game, ranking fifth among all Liberty League players. A four-time selection as Liberty League rookie of the week, Loggins was also named to the league’s weekly honor roll on two other occasions.
CO-ROOKIE OF THE YEAR: Tytravia Riley, Fr., F, Bard College
Bard College freshman forward Tytravia Riley shared Liberty League Rookie of the Year honors with Clarkson freshman Ashley Loggins. Riley led the Liberty League in rebounding at 15.2 rebounds per game – more than five per game ahead of the next player. She also ranked fourth in the league in scoring (16.6 ppg) and was tied for second in steals (2.9 spg). Riley was selected as the Liberty League performer of the week once and was a four-time selection as rookie of the week.
COACHING STAFF OF THE YEAR: Vassar College – Candice Brown, Margaret White
Vassar head coach Candice Brown led the Brewers to a 21-4 regular-season record and a 13-3 mark in Liberty League play. Brown’s squad set a school record for wins in a season en route to the first Liberty League regular-season title in program history. The .840 winning percentage is the best in school history as is the .812 Liberty League winning percentage. Vassar led the league in six team categories, including scoring (69.8 ppg), scoring margin (+11.4), field goal percentage (.427), 3-point field goal percentage (.330), rebounds per game (43.1) and assists per game (16.8).
