Union Women's Basketball will head to Maine for NCAA Opening Weekend

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College women's basketball team will head to #15 Bates College for the opening round of the 2026 NCAA Division III Tournament, as the Garnet Chargers will face off with #7 Smith College in the first round on Friday, March 6.

Union will be making its second appearance in the NCAA Tournament in program history. In 2003-04, Union hosted a first-weekend pod and defeated Mount St. Mary College before losing to New York University in the second round.

Union clinched one of the 43 automatic berths into the postseason with a 81-70 victory over Rochester Institute of Technology, clinching the second Liberty League title in program history after a 16-2 conference regular season.

Smith (27-1, 11-0 NEWMAC) earned the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference's automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament this season.

More information on Friday's game and a full postseason preview will be available later in the week on unionathletics.com.
