CANTON, Ga.—Hobart hockey forward Luke Aquaro '25 added to his already impressive resume this afternoon. The 2025 Liberty League Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year was named the Division III Commissioners' Association Region III Student-Athlete of the Year. As the Region III Male Student-Athlete of the Year, Aquaro is one of 10 finalists for the D3CA National Male Student Athlete of the Year award.
This is the second time in four years that a Hobart hockey player has won. Artem Buzoverya '24 won the Region III award last year. Chi Alpha Sigma, the National College Athlete Honor Society, serves as the presenting sponsor for the Regional Student-Athlete of the Year awards.
A native of Yardley, Pennsylvania, Aquaro led the Statesmen to three straight NCAA Division III national championships. He graduated summa cum laude with a degree in economics in May. A three-time AHCA All-American Scholar and a three-time NEHC All-Academic selection, Aquaro is a two-time College Sports Communicators Academic All-America first team selection.
On the ice, Aquaro will go down as one of the best offensive threats in program history. He played in 111 career games, recording 70 goals, 64 assists and 134 points. Aquaro finished third on Hobart's all-time goal list, fourth in points and sixth in assists. He registered a career-high in goals (21), assists (18) and points (39) as a sophomore on his way to being voted the New England Hockey Conference Player of the Year and the runner-up for the Sid Watson Award, the national player of the year award. During his junior campaign, Aquaro scored the game-winning goal against Trinity in the national championship game. He capped off his career by setting up the game-tying goal against Utica in the 2025 national championship game.
Aquaro and his classmates compiled a 106-11-4 overall record, made four NCAA tournament appearances, captured four NEHC regular season titles and won three NEHC Tournament titles.
Aquaro is a two-time AHCA All-American (2023 1st team, 2025 2nd team) and earned a spot on the All-NEHC teams three times (1st team in 2023 & 2025, 3rd team in 2024).
Aquaro served as team captain for the Statesmen this past season after serving as one of the squad's assistant captains as a junior. He was a member of the school's Finance Society while also representing Hobart hockey on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and serving as a student representative on the Statemen Athletic Association Board of Directors. He volunteered with the Geneva Recreation Department, Geneva Youth Group, and the Geneva Generals Hockey Organization in addition to participating as a volunteer for HWS Days of Service.
