RPI Men’s Lacrosse upended by Dickinson in NCAA Quarterfinals

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's lacrosse team fell 11-9 to Dickinson today in the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Division III Championship at host RIT.

Tyler Ruffini finished with four points to highlight the RPI attack. Ruffini scored one goal and led all players with three assists. 

Erik Ojert and Zach Swanson logged three points apiece for the Engineers. Ojert had an assist and a team-high two goals, while Swanson had a goal and two helpers.

Cooper Manzi, Cooper Roman, Sean Smith, Easton Morse, and Angelo Venuto each netted one goal.

The Engineers were forced to face an early deficit in today's contest, as Dickinson scored twice in the opening 2:17. Down 2-0, the Engineers needed the majority of the first quarter to warm up before Ojert and Manzi pocketed consecutive scores to close the first quarter at 2-2.

Dickinson scored seven of the next nine goals to further establish its control. Roman and Ruffini found the back of the net in the middle of the rally, but the Dickinson margin ballooned to five going into the final 15 minutes.

Ojert, Venuto, and Swanson produced fourth-quarter goals, however the Engineers were not able to get their deficit closer than two in the closing stanza.

RPI finished the spring campaign with an overall record of 16-4.
