Poughkeepsie, N.Y. – Arden Tobolski and Mauricio Mejia each recorded three points and Jackson Allen scored his first career goal as the Vassar College Men's Soccer team advanced to the semifinal round of the Liberty League Championship with a 4-1 victory over St. Lawrence University.
Tuesday's win pushes Vassar to 10-5-3 overall on the season and gives the Brewers double-digit wins for the second straight year. St. Lawrence sees its season come to an end with a 6-10 record.
How It Happened
- St. Lawrence came out of the gates strong, forcing Vassar goalkeeper, Jacob Raphan to make three saves over the opening 23 minutes, including denying Henry Hart on a shot from close range.
- After withstanding the opening flurry from the Saints, Vassar scored back-to-back goals just 3:49 apart to open up a 2-0 lead.
- Mejia got the Brewers on the board at the 25:00 mark when he headed home a rebound from a Tobolski shot that rang the crossbar.
- Just 3:49 later, Tobolski started a free kick that Jared Fiske deposited to open up a two-goal advantage.
- Leading by two at the break, Vassar held a 9-6 advantage in first half shots, while St. Lawrence took five of the six first half corner kicks.
- Raphan finished the opening 45 minutes with five saves to keep the Saints off the board.
- Vassar spread its lead to 3-0 in the 55th minute when Allen headed home his first career goal.
- Tobolski started a corner kick and Mejia headed the ball to Allen who tucked a header just inside the left post for the commanding three-goal lead.
- St. Lawrence broke through in the 61st minute with its only goal when Dennis Argueta buried a passing play from Ryan Campbell and Henry Hart at 60:21.
- The Brewers finished off the scoring in the game with an own goal when a St. Lawrence defender headed in a cross at 82:04.
- Vassar finished the second half with A 6-4 advantage in shots and a 2-0 edge in corner kicks.
For The Brewers
- Tobolski recorded three assists in a game for the third time this season and pushes his single season record in the category to 16 and his team-high point total to 38.
- Fiske scored his team leading 13th goal of the season and recorded his third game winning goal of the year. Fiske runs his season point total to 33 on the season.
- Mejia scored his first goal of the season to open the scoring in the game and added an assist on the Allen goal to push his season point total to six.
- Allen found the scoring column for the first time in his career with the Brewers' third goal of the game.
- Raphan closed the game with a season-high five stops and enters into a tie for the team lead in saves with 27.
For The Saints
- Argueta scored his second goal of the season for the Saints.
- Campell picked up his second assist of the year and moved his season point total to 12.
- Hart recorded his team leading fifth assist of the campaign.
- Zach Amato made five saves in goal for St. Lawrence.
