Liberty League unveils 2025 Men's Soccer Accolades; Vassar's Fiske named Player of the Year

Following a vote by the conference's ten head coaches, the Liberty League has unveiled the 2025 Men's Soccer Major Awards and All-League teams.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Jared Fiske, Senior, Midfielder, Vassar College

For the second time in three seasons, a Vassar College men’s soccer player has been named Liberty League Player of the Year, with senior forward Jared Fiske receiving the 2025 distinction. Fiske enjoyed a standout senior campaign for the Brewers this season, starting all 20 games and setting career highs in goals (13), assists (7), and points (33). He led the team in goals while ranking second in assists, points, and game-winning goals (3), and was third in minutes played (1,641).

Fiske registered at least one point in 14 of 20 contests and topped the Liberty League leaderboard in goals and goals per game (0.65). He also ranked among the league’s top 10 in points (2nd), points per game (2nd, 1.65), assists (T-2nd), assists per game (5th, 0.35), and game-winning goals (T-3rd). Against conference opponents, Fiske posted a league-best 18 points and averaged 2.00 points per game behind seven goals (1st) and four assists (T-2nd). Fiske helped guide Vassar, who was the third seed, to its second consecutive Liberty League championship final.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Tommy Chyzowych, Senior, Goalkeeper, Hobart College

Hobart College senior goalkeeper Tommy Chyzowych was selected the 2025 Liberty League Defensive Player of the Year, marking the second time in three seasons that a Statesmen has earned the honor. Chyzowych started 15 games in goal for Hobart this year, compiling an unbeaten 11-0-4 record through the regular season and Liberty League tournament. He leads the conference with a 0.608 goals against average—ranking 16th nationally among Division III goalkeepers—and was tied for 32nd in the country in shutouts with a league-best seven. Chyzowych also ranked among the Liberty League’s top three in save percentage (3rd, .804). He recorded a season-high five saves on three occasions, including in the Liberty League Championship game, where Hobart secured a 2-1 victory to capture its second conference title in three years and fifth overall. A two-year starter for the Statesmen, Chyzowych has appeared in 30 career games, posting a 16-6-10 record to go along with a 0.76 goals against average, a .798 save percentage, and 13 shutouts.

ROOKIE OF THE YEAR: Jacob Humienny, Midfielder, Skidmore College

For the first time, a Skidmore College men’s soccer player was recognized as Liberty League Rookie of the Year, with first-year midfielder Jacob Humienny earning the 2025 honor. Humienny made an immediate impact in his first season with the Thoroughbreds, starting 15 of 17 games and recording three goals and two assists for eight points—ranking third on the team. He tied for second in assists, tied for third in goals. A consistent ball distributor, he finished the year third in both shots (32) and shots on goal (17). Among league leaders, Humienny ranked 11th in shots per game (2.13) and shots on goal per game (1.13). A two-time Liberty League Rookie of the Week selection, he tallied one game-winning goal in the regular-season finale, a 1-0 victory, that helped Skidmore secure the No. 2 seed in the conference postseason for the first time in program history.

COACHING STAFF OF THE YEAR: Hobart College – Shawn Griffin, Head Coach; Assistant Coaches Rob Brandell, Joe Kennedy, and Jacob Fox

Hobart College head coach Shawn Griffin and his assistant coaches were named the Liberty League Coaching Staff of the Year after guiding the Statesmen to an unbeaten 13-0-5 record through the regular season and Liberty League tournament this season, including a 6-0-3 mark in conference play. Hobart improved its regular season win total by six from 2024 (5-5-6 to 11-0-5) to earn the top seed in the 2025 Liberty League tournament, ultimately capturing its second conference title in three seasons with a 1-0 victory in the semifinals and a 2-1 win in the title game. The Statesmen boast the league’s stingiest defense, allowing just 11 goals all season and only seven in nine league contests. Hobart posted a conference-best nine shutouts—tied for 28th nationally in shutout percentage (.500)—while also ranking second in the league in both points per game (5.11) and goals per game (1.88). With the Liberty League crown secured and the conference’s automatic berth, Hobart is set to host the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament this weekend as the Statesmen welcome Messiah, Calvin, and Grove City to Geneva, N.Y.
