Carter Lincoln returns as Head Coach for Clarkson Men's Soccer Program

The Clarkson University Athletic Department is pleased to announce the hiring of Carter Lincoln as the Clarkson University Men's Soccer coach.

Lincoln replaces Augusto Lima, who is departing Clarkson for an assistant position at Division I College of the Holy Cross. Lima originally took over for Lincoln as the head coach for the Golden Knights in the spring of 2023 when the latter went to serve as an assistant coach at Syracuse University, the then defending NCAA Division I National Champions. In his two seasons with the Orange, Lincoln helped the team to a 16-12-10 record including an NCAA Tournament in 2023 where the team advanced to the second round.

"We are excited to announce that Carter has accepted the position as our next men's soccer coach," Clarkson University Athletic Director Laurel Kane said. "With Augusto Lima's departure, we are very fortunate that Carter has chosen to return, ensuring a seamless transition for our recruits, alumni, and current players, many which were originally welcomed to Clarkson by Carter."

"I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to rejoin the Clarkson Men's Soccer team and the Clarkson University community," Lincoln said. "I am excited to build upon the milestones accomplished in my previous tenure, along with those achieved by Coach Lima. The team is in a great position and I look forward to working with the student-athletes this spring on and off the field, as we prepare for the fall 2025 season. Let's go tech!"

In his first tenure with the Golden Knights, Lincoln produced a 34-24-11 record over four seasons (.572 winning percentage) and coached four United Soccer Coaches All-Region selections, including one All-American. In just his second year at the helm for the Knights, Clarkson advanced to the Liberty League Championship game. Following the non-season for COVID in the fall of 2020, Clarkson posted 13 wins in two years, recording a 9-4-3 record in 2022 which also included the team's first national ranking in two decades.

Before his stint with the Golden Knights, Lincoln was the assistant coach at his alma mater, University of Vermont, for one year. Lincoln's coaching career actually began at Clarkson when he was the graduate assistant coach in 2015-16 under Chris Taylor. A native of Essex Junction, VT, Lincoln holds a USSF 'C' level coaching license.

Lincoln graduated from University of Vermont in 2015 with a degree in Community and International Development and then received his master's degree in Management at SUNY Potsdam in 2020. He played for the Catamounts for three years after transferring from Division II Southern New Hampshire University. Over those four total seasons, he appeared in 45 games with 10 starts, scoring one goal.
