Six from Liberty League Volleyball recognized with All-America honors

Six Liberty League volleyball players garnered American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-America accolades following the 2024 campaign.

Two conference institutions—Ithaca College (2024 Liberty League Champions), and William Smith College (2024 Liberty League runner-up), were represented with three honorees apiece.
 
All six of the honorees were named AVCA All-Region first team selections for Region III in November. Five of the six student-athletes recognized earned All-America honorable mention honors. Ithaca’s Wesley Slavin, the 2024 Liberty League Player of the Year and 2024 AVCA Region III Player of the Year, was named to the second team.

Wesley Slavin, So., S, Ithaca

Slavin played in 29 matches for the Bombers this season and paced the team in assists as well as assists per set with 925 and 9.95 per set, respectively. Among league leaders, she was second in assists per set and third in total assists. Nationally, she was ranked among the top 30 in assists per set (22nd). Slavin tallied 20 or more assists in 27 matches and boasted a season-high 58 assists in a match against Trinity (Texas) in early October. The two-time Liberty League Performer of the Week honoree also registered a .234 hitting percentage and averaged 1.87 digs per set. 
 
AVCA Division III All-America Honorable Mention
 
Naomi Clauhs, So., OH, Ithaca
 
Clauhs ended the 2024 campaign as Ithaca's top hitter, leading the Bombers with 318 kills on 884 attempts for a .239 hitting percentage. She finished third in the Liberty League in total kills and kills per set (3.28). She was also fourth in total points (339.5) and fifth in points per set (3.5). Clauhs set career-highs in aces (3), blocks (21) and overall points scored.

Gabriela Gonzalez-Abreu, So., OH, Ithaca
 
Gonzalez-Abreu finished the year second on the team in kills (315) and third in digs (219). She also posted 30 service aces and 25 blocks. She was fourth in the Liberty League in both kills and kills per set (3.15). Gonzalez-Abreu tallied double-digit kills in 17 of 31 matches this year. She also was fourth in the conference in points (360) and third in points per set (3.60). Through two seasons with the Bombers, she totaled 651 career kills.

Malya Sayre, Jr., OH, William Smith
 
In 109 sets (29 matches), Sayre recorded a team-high 434 kills, 365 digs, 58 service aces, and 33 blocks. She averaged a league leading 3.98 kills per set and 4.69 points per set, good for 32nd and 22nd in the nation, respectively. Sayre also ranked eighth in the Liberty League in service aces per set (0.53) and digs per set (3.35). She had six matches with 20+ kills and 25 with 10+ kills.

Hope Von Dohlen, Jr., RS, William Smith
 
Von Dohlen tallied 260 kills, 77 digs and 70 blocks with a .163 hitting percentage. She averaged 2.39 kills per set, and 2.74 points per set. She was among the conference’s top 12 in blocking (0.64; 7 solo, 63 assist). Von Dohlen recorded double digit kills in 11 matches this season and posted four or more blocks seven times.

Delainy Williams, Fr., RS, William Smith
 
Williams had a league-best 1,134 and 10.40 assists per set this season. She was 10th in Division III in assists per set and tallied 30 or more assists in 27-of-29 matches. Williams is the first Heron in program history to surpass the 1,000-career assist mark as a rookie. Williams also recorded 200 digs (1.83 per set), 51 service aces (0.53 per set), and 47 kills (0.43 per set).
