2024 Liberty Leaugue Men's Cross Country Championship Results
CANTON, N.Y. – The RPI Men's Cross Country team earned its eighth consecutive Liberty League title on Saturday at the 2024 Liberty League Cross Country Championships on the campus of St. Lawrence University at the Ronald C. Hoffmann Cross Country Course.
The Engineers cruised to the 2024 team title with 21 points, their five scoring runners finished in the top seven. All 14 of RPI's runners participating in the championship placed among the top 27 with 12 earning All-Liberty League honors (5 first team, 4 second team, 3 honorable mention). Host St. Lawrence was second with 73 points and Vassar College (92) finished third. The Brewers were followed by Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT, 108), Union College (125), Ithaca College (132), Clarkson University (196), Hobart College (260), and Bard College (293)
St. Lawrence junior Nick Lyndaker was the individual champion with a time of 24:35.3 on the 8,000-meter course. En route to the individual title, Lyndaker broke the course record time of 24:39.4 set in 2011, by more than four seconds. He also posted a margin of victory of seven seconds.
RPI runners were second through fifth with senior Vince Simonetti leading the pack. He finished as the individual runner-up with a time of 24:42.2. Simonetti was followed by teammates senior Jonathan Craun (3rd, 24:47.1), junior Jack Loughery (24:50.0), and junior Tobin Durham (24:54.4).
Lyndaker, Simonetti, Craun, Loughery, Durham, and Union College senior Ryan Russell, who was seventh at 25:55.5, all finished the race under 25 minutes. Prior to this year, only four runners had clocked an 8,000 meter time of less than 25 minutes on the Saints' Hoffmann course. They each earned a spot on the All-Liberty League First Team (first through seventh place) along with RPI sophomore Evan Lacey (7th, 25:01.2).
Runners finishing in spots eight through 14 earned second team All-Liberty League honors
. RIT junior Derick Koen led the way in eighth with a time of 25:05.7. RPI junior Justin Cascio and sophomore Jack Czarnecki were ninth and tenth at 25:06.5 and 25:25.7. Seniors Benjamin Neff (25:25.1) of Union finished 11th and Jose Magana of Vassar was 12th (25:26.8). RPI sophomore Brady Geisler (25:27.9) and junior Gwilym Horner (25:34.7) finished 13th and 14th to earn second team honors.
The Liberty League also recognizes an honorable mention that represents individuals that finish fifteenth through twenty-first.
