Following a vote by the conference's ten head coaches, the Liberty League has revealed the 2023 Men's Soccer Major Awards and All-League teams.
LIBERTY LEAGUE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Owen Fauth, Senior, Midfielder, Vassar College
Vassar College senior Owen Fauth was named the Liberty League Player of the Year. Fauth started all 18 games for the Brewers while leading the team in points (20) and assists (8). He also finished the year ranked second in goals and game-winning goals with six and two respectively. He was tops among league leaders in assists and assists per game (.444), third in points, and fourth in points per game (1.11).
LIBERTY LEAGUE CO-DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Connor Koschineg, Junior, Defender, Hobart College
Hobart College junior Connor Koschineg was selected Liberty League Co-Defensive Player of the Year. A center back for the Statesmen, he started all 18 games this season and had an integral role in Hobart's run from a sixth-place finish in 2022 to earning the Liberty League regular season and tournament titles this fall. In league play, Koschineg and the Statesmen held opponents to eight goals, good for second in the conference. He also had a hand in the offense with a goal and two assists for four points. In his third season at Hobart, he has made 50 of 51 possible starts.
LIBERTY LEAGUE CO-DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Ben Woelfinger, Senior, Goalkeeper, St. Lawrence University
St. Lawrence University goalkeeper Ben Woelfinger garnered Liberty League Co-Defensive Player of the Year accolades. The 2022 Liberty League Defensive Player of the Year, Woelfinger continued to be a stalwart in net for the Saints, finishing the season with a 6-6-2 overall mark and a 5-4-1 record against league opponents. He posted a league-best seven shutouts on the year while also ranking first in the conference in goals against average (.786), save percentage (.857), and saves per game (4.71). At St. Lawrence, he is ranked third in career saves with 309 and is tied for third in career shutouts with 24.
LIBERTY LEAGUE ROOKIE OF THE YEAR: Henry Brown, Forward, St. Lawrence University
For the second consecutive year, a St. Lawrence University first-year has earned Liberty League Rookie of the Year honors with Henry Brown getting the nod following the 2023 campaign. Brown played in all 17 games and made 13 starts in his first year in a St. Lawrence uniform. Despite not tallying his first point of the year until October 4th (1 assist) and not scoring a goal until October 14, where he netted two, he ended the season as the leading scorer for the Saints with a team-high five goals and four assists for 14 points. Brown closed out his rookie season ranked among the league's top 10 in assists (T-5th), shots on goal (T-5th, 18), points (T-9th), and shots (10th, 34).
LIBERTY LEAGUE COACHING STAFF OF THE YEAR: Hobart College – Shawn Griffin, Head Coach; Assistant Coaches Rob Brandell, Jacob Fox, and Joe Kennedy
Hobart head coach Shawn Griffin and his assistant coaches Rob Brandell, Jacob Fox, and Joe Kennedy were tabbed Coaching Staff of the Year. They guided the Statesmen to a 12-5-2 overall mark and a 7-1-1 record against league opponents. Hobart finished atop the league standings as regular season champions and with two wins in the conference tournament, captured its first Liberty League title since 2019. As a team, the Statesmen lead the league in assists per game (2.1) while ranking second in points per game (6.21), goals per game (2.0), and shots per game (13.58). Next up for Hobart is the program's ninth appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Statesmen travel to Cortland to face off against Case Western Reserve in the first round on Saturday, November 11.
