The Bard College Department of Athletics and Recreation has hired Lindsey Veersma as Head Women's Volleyball Coach.
Veersma comes to Annandale from Centre College in Danville, Ky., where she was an assistant coach as the Colonels went from 2-10 in 2020 to 17-9 in 2021. She replaces Stefanie Carrington, who was promoted to Associate Athletic Director at Bard this spring.
"Lindsey stood out to us as a great fit early in the search process." Carrington said. "Beyond her ability to train the team, she has a real understanding of what it takes to support our student-athletes on and off the court. I'm eager to see the program continue to grow under her guidance."
"I feel extremely grateful," Veersma said. "I immediately connected with the administration and all of the people I met during my time on campus, and I'm excited to join the Bard family. The campus is also so beautiful, and I'm excited to call it my new home."
Before Centre, Veersma was the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Franklin College in Franklin, Ind., where she helped the Grizzlies put together their best conference record since 2002, with five players earning all-league honors, and one named Defensive Player of the Year. While in the Indianapolis region, she also served as the head coach of the 18th Elite Fury for The Academy VBC, leading the club to six top-ten tournament finishes.
"The Liberty League is a strong conference with proven success in women's volleyball," Veersma said. "I will get more familiar with the talent in the league, and continue to build Bard to be a top competitor.
"I'm looking forward to building a strong culture within the Bard women's volleyball program," Veersma added, "and to be connected to everyone. I feel fortunate to be able to help this team achieve its highest potential."
Veersma has a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and a Master's Degree in Management with a concentration in Sports Administration from Robert Morris University.
"We're thrilled that Lindsey will be joining our department, and she is the perfect person to continue the growth of that team," said David Lindholm, Director of Athletics and Recreation. "Her knowledge of the sport and her experience both coaching and recruiting have prepared her well for this role, and we're excited for her to get started."
Bard opens the season at home against William Paterson University on Sept. 1.
