Following a vote by the league's head coaches, the Liberty League announced its major awards in Men's Rowing for the 2021-22 season.
CREW OF THE YEAR: Hobart Varsity Eight
Hobart College's Varsity Eight was recognized as the Liberty League Men's Rowing Crew of the Year. The Statesmen varsity eight includes
Sawyer MacDonald, Zachary Berzon, Anthony Carella, Mo Marchart, Will Drake, Conrad Palmer, Cameron Kumagai, Sean Madden and
Alex Sickmuller. At the Liberty League Championship, the Statesmen were first in a field of six teams, crossing the finish line in 6:01.060. It was Hobart's 17th straight gold medal in the Varsity Eight race. Hobart also secured its 16th straight Liberty League Men's Rowing title at the regatta with the V8 victory. The Statesmen also competed at the National Invitational Rowing Championship this spring, where they placed fifth (6:01.581).
NOVICE CREW OF THE YEAR: Hobart Novice Four
Hobart College's Novice Four was recognized as the Liberty League Men's Rowing Novice Crew of the Year (
Hannah Bilton, Kevin Frost, Michael Gilbert, Jake Shue and
Andrew Painton). The quintet earned gold medals in the novice four race at the 2022 Liberty League Championship; producing a time of 7:33.070 on the 2,000 meter course at Saratoga's Fish Creek.
COACHING STAFF OF THE YEAR: Ithaca College – Head Coach Dan Robinson; Assistant Coach Crista Shopis
Ithaca College head coach Dan Robinson and his assistant coach Crista Shopis were named the Liberty League Coaching Staff of the Year. Ithaca's Varsity Eight finished as the runner-up at the 2022 Liberty League Championship, getting narrowly edged by less than four seconds with a time of 6:04.480. The Bombers also competed at the 2022 NIRC, where the Varsity Eight finished in fourth in the petit final with a time of 6:15.002. The Bombers' Second Varsity Eight was also fourth in the petit final (6:19.957) as was the Open Four (7:28.854).
