Liberty League reveals 2021-22 Women's Basketball Awards

PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Sarah Gillooly, Senior, Guard, Vassar College
 
Vassar College senior Sarah Gillooly has been selected as the Liberty League Player of the Year. A skillful player on both the offensive and defensive sides of the game for the Brewers, she paced the league in assists (101) and assists per game (4.0), while also ranking among the top-10 in scoring (7th; 14.2 points per game) and top-20 in rebounding (18th; 5.7). She is also tops in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.4), which ranks her 15th in all of Division III.  Gillooly played and started in all 25 games this season and she recorded three double-doubles on the year. She registered a career-high 27 points in mid-February at William Smith and a season-high 14 rebounds in January against RIT.
 
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Eliza Srinivasan, Junior, Point Guard, Vassar College
 
Vassar College junior Eliza Srinivasan has been recognized as the Liberty League Defensive Player of the Year. She was Vassar's top defender this season and boasted a team-high 49 steals, good for second among league leaders. Srinivasan, a starter in all 25 games, was also second in the conference in assists with 97, only trailing teammate Gillooly and third in assist to turnover ratio (1.5). The point guard also contributed to the offense with 7.0 points (175) and 5.0 rebounds per game (124). Srinivasan also led the Brewers in defensive rebounds with 104 on the year.
 
ROOKIE OF THE YEAR: Brooke Jarvis, William Smith College
 
William Smith College sophomore Brooke Jarvis was named the Liberty League Rookie of the Year. She had a breakout rookie campaign as she was second on the Herons in scoring, averaging 17.6 points per game. She was third on the team in rebounds (7.6 per game) and paced William Smith in blocked shots with 14. Among league leaders, the four-time Rookie of the Week selection was ranked in the top-seven in points per game (3rd), field-goal percentage (5th, .436), rebounds per game (7th, 7.6) and free-throw percentage (7th, .689). Jarvis netted double-figures in points in 22 of 25 games and posted 20-plus points 10 times.

The Vassar College women's basketball coaching staff was recognized as the Liberty League Coaching Staff of the Year. Anthony Mason and his assistant coach JJ Hoffstein guided the Brewers to a 17-8 overall record (16-2 Liberty League) in their first year in Poughkeepsie. Vassar opened the year with five straight losses; four of which were against teams ranked in the d3hoops.com top-25, before turning the season around at a 16-2 clip in league play en route to earning the second seed in the Liberty League postseason. The Brewers led the conference in offense (70.2 points per game) and three-pointers made (10.6) and team free-throw percentage (.753). They were also second in field goal percentage beyond the arc (.296).
