RIT Women's Soccer beats Vassar in Liberty League First Round

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT sophomore forward Sam Halligan scored two goals to lead the No. 4 Tigers to a 3-1 win over No. 5 Vassar in the Liberty League First Round on Tuesday.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Senior forward Madison Corso scored in the eighth minute to give RIT the lead. Halligan intercepted an errant Vassar pass and drove to the net. She passed to sophomore forward Emma Schock, who fed Corso with a pass. She fired a shot into the corner for her fifth goal of the season.
  • Vassar's Jessica Young tied the score on her goal in the 32nd minute, scoring on a shot from 25-yard out.
  • Halligan scored her league-leading 10th goal of the season off a free-kick from 20-yards out in the 59th minute.
  • She converted a penalty kick in the 64th minute for her 11th of the season to extend the RIT lead to two goals.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Vassar outshot RIT 12-6.
  • The Tigers had four corner kicks.
  • RIT first-year goalie Emily Sanchez made three saves.
  • It is RIT's first win over Vassar since Oct. 30, 2018.
