23 from Liberty League earn spots on USILA All-America teams; Two from RIT garner major awards

2019 USILA Division III All-America Teams
 
The United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) has announced its 2019 Division III All-America teams and 23 Liberty League men’s lacrosse players have been recognized.
 
Seven Liberty League institutions were represented among the 23 honorees—Clarkson University, Ithaca College, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), St. Lawrence University, Union College and Vassar College. RIT, the 2019 Liberty League Champions, led the seven schools with nine honorees, five of which were named to the First Team. RPI had four representatives while Union and St. Lawrence each had three. Ithaca had two honorees and Clarkson and Vassar each had one.
 
Two from RIT also garnered major award accolades from the USILA with goalie Walker Hare earning the Ensign C. Markland Kelly Jr. Outstanding Goalie award and Trevor Smyth, the 2019 Liberty League Defensive Player of the year, was named the Co-Long Pole Midfielder of the Year.

Ensign C. Markland Kelly Jr. Outstanding Goalie – Walker Hare, Junior, Goalie, RIT
 
Hare finished the 2019 season with an impressive 20-2 record. He finished fourth in Division III with a .616 save percentage, and 14th nationally with an 8.22 goals against average. Hare, a 2018 Second Team All-American selection, made a career-high 20 saves in a win over Bates College, and finished Liberty League play with a 7.54 goals against average and a .634 save percentage, earning Liberty League Defensive Performer of the Week honors three times. Hare enters his final season at RIT with a 40-3 career record and is seventh all-time with a career 8.25 goals against average.
 
Co-Long Pole Midfielder of the Year – Trevor Smyth, Senior, Defense, RIT
 
Smyth started all 22 games at long-stick midfield for the Tigers. He led the team with 42 caused turnovers, helping anchor a RIT defense that held opponents to 7.95 goals per game, and finished third on the team with 79 ground balls. Smyth contributed offensively, finishing eighth on the team in scoring with 30 points on 16 goals and 14 assists. He caused a season-high five turnovers and had eight ground balls in a win at SUNY Cortland and tallied a season-best three goals and four points versus Nazareth College.
