2013 Liberty League Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championship Results

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Led by two individual victories from junior Zac Borrelli, the RPI men's track and field squad earned its fifth straight Liberty League outdoor track and field title and twelfth overall at Vassar College on Saturday.

RPI compiled 222 team points to finish comfortably ahead of second-place RIT (168). St. Lawrence (111) finished third, followed by Union (50), Vassar (49) and Bard (19).

Borrelli was named the Liberty League field performer of the meet after winning both the shot put (15.10 meters) and discus (42.75) while earning a second-place finish in the hammer throw (48.16). RIT senior Mike Kurvach was selected as the track performer of the meet after winning both the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:25.07) and the 5,000 (15:26.31).

RPI won a total of eight individual events. Senior Benjamin Levitz and junior Sean Quinn got the Engineers off to a fast start, going 1-2 in the first event, the 10,000. Levitz recorded a winning time of 31:52.99. Sophomore Tyler Gumina won the 1,500 in 4:03.04, finishing just over a second ahead of RIT's Adam Irr.

RPI senior David Kastner, an All-American in the indoor 60-meter hurdles, won the 110-meter hurdles in 14.93, eclipsing the facility record of 15.33 seconds. Fellow senior John Scanlon won the 400-meter run in 51.12, beating out teammate Enow Neba Ayuk Ebott (51.13) by .01 seconds in a timed final event. The two runners ran in separate heats. RPI junior Samuel Ellis (55.42) was a winner in the 400-meter hurdles. Freshman Mark Grimes rounded out the individual champions for the Engineers as he won the javelin with a throw of 53.56 meters.

RIT junior Marquis Moore was also a double winner as he recorded first-place finishes in both the long jump (6.96 meters) and triple jump (14.19 meters).

The top two finishers in each event earn All-Liberty League honors.
