2012 Liberty League Men’s Cross Country Awards

Runner of the Year: Sam Rakoc, Sr., St. Lawrence University

St. Lawrence University senior Sam Rakoc was a unanimous selection for Liberty League Runner of the Year in 2012. Rakoc won the Liberty League Championship with a time of 25:25, 12 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. Rakoc also nabbed the NYSCTC Championship in 2012. Rakoc was the number one runner with the Saints all season long, posting four top-10 finishes and personal best finish at the NCAA Championship race (80th, 25:33.7) to finish his St. Lawrence career.

Rookie of the Year: Spencer Patterson, Fr., St. Lawrence University

Spencer Patterson was named Rookie of the Year after consistently being one of the Saints top runners in the 2012 season.  A four-time Liberty League rookie of the week selection, Patterson was the top freshman finisher in the Liberty League Championship placing fifth. He posted three other top-10 finishes in his freshman campaign.

Coaching Staff of the Year: John Newman, Head Coach, St. Lawrence University

St. Lawrence University Head Coach John Newman was named the Liberty League Coach of the Year for the sixth consecutive season after leading the Saints to their 18th straight Liberty League Championship in 2012. Newman also coached the Saints to their fifth straight NCAA Championship appearance.
