Hulton selected Liberty League Cross Country Runner of the Year; D'Addario named Rookie of the Year
St. Lawrence University senior Jenna Hulton was selected as the Liberty League Runner of the Year in women's cross country while William Smith College first-year junior Emily D'Addario earned Rookie of the Year honors.
Hulton earned All-America honors for the second time in her St. Lawrence career, placing 34 at the
2011 NCAA Championship race. She became only the second two-time All-American in program history. Hulton was the team's top finisher in the race, leading the Saints to an eighth place team finish. The East Aurora, N.Y. native also finished fourth at the NCAA Atlantic Regional Championship, helping St. Lawrence to its third consecutive regional title. Hulton won three times this fall, including both the including both the Liberty League and NYSCTC Championships. Her time of 22:04 was the fastest ever at a Liberty League championship meet, eclipsing the previous mark of 22:28 held by former teammate Wendy Pavlus. Hulton finished 35 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.
In her first year as a runner after competing for two years as a member of the Heron soccer team, D'Addario became just the second William Smith runner to qualify for the NCAA Division III Women's Cross Country Championships. She led the Herons across the finish line in all 10 races the team competed in this fall. D'Addario began her rookie season earning three straight victories. Overall she recorded five first-place finishes and set three course records. She posted a second-place finish at the Liberty League Championship and earned all-league first team honors. D'Addario placed third at the ECAC Championships, matching the best finish by a William Smith runner at the event. In the NCAA Atlantic Regional Championship, she finished seventh out of 256 runners and finished the 6-kilometer race in 22:19.6, lowering her season best time at that distance by 2.4 seconds.
St. Lawrence University head coach Mike Howard and assistant coach Kate Curran earned Liberty League Coaching Staff of the Year honors. Despite losing two-time NCAA Division III champion Wendy Pavlus '11 to graduation, Howard led his team to a 10th consecutive Liberty League title, a third straight NCAA Atlantic Region title and an eighth-place finish at the NCAA Championship race. The eighth-place finish is the second-best showing in program history.
The top seven finishers in the race earned First Team All-Liberty League honors: Jenna Hulton (SLU), Emily D'Addario (WSC), Erin LaFave (RIT), Megan Hulton (SLU), Jackie Lemme (SLU), Amy Cymerman (SLU), and McKayla Nuffer (SLU).
The second seven finishers (places 8-14) earned Second Team All-Liberty League honors: Christine Koch (RPI), Anne Martino (SLU), Kelly Holmes (VAS), Viviane Ford (VAS), Harper Cleves (VAS), Elizabeth Forbes (VAS), and Hailey Beyer (RPI).
