Union College first-year Keita Fukushima went 5-1 over the weekend at the Garnet Charger Invitational, winning four straight matches to take home the “B” Singles title and also going 1-1 in doubles play. He started the weekend with a 6-3, 6-0 win over St. Lawrence's MJ Chaho in the first round before a tough 6-1, 7-6 (7-4) victory over Hamilton's Neal Gupta in the quarterfinals. He came back to earn a supertiebreaker win in the semifinals, oustlasting Hamilton's Ignacio Tran, 4-6, 6-2, (10-5), before knocking off Union classmate Shreyas Kode, 6-3, 6-3, in the finals. In doubles action, Fukushima teamed with Austin Gregory to post an 8-6 win over a Hamilton pair to reach the semifinals, where they were edged by teammates and eventual champions Dimitris Binopoulos and Ben Jacobs, 8-7 (9-7).
