William Smith College sophomore outside hitter Malya Sayre helped the Herons to a 2-1 start. An all-tournament team selection at the Eastern Nazarene Invitational, Sayre recorded 51 kills, while hitting a combined .254 hitting percentage with 17 digs, four service aces and three blocks across three matches. In Friday's 3-1 season opening win against Linfield, she led the Herons with 22 kills while hitting .383. She added six digs, three blocks (two solo), two service aces and one assist. In Saturday morning's 3-1 loss to host Eastern Nazarene, Sayre led the Herons again with 17 kills along with six digs and two service aces to keep William Smith in the match. In the third match of the weekend, Sayre led the Herons in a 3-0 sweep of Western New England, posting 12 kills and a .212 hitting percentage while adding five digs.
