RPI senior Matt Lecky finished 11th overall - the second-best individual finish in the men's program's history - to lead the Engineers a school-record ninth place at the 2022 NCAA Division III Men's Cross Country Championship. He ran a 5:05 pace on a snowy 8k course in wind chill temperatures that were under 10 degrees in Michigan. His first mile was 4:56.7, which put him near the front of the 294-competitor field. His two-mile split of 9:58.8 kept him there and he held steady throughout for a finishing time of 25:12.5. He was 0.5 from 10th place and less than a second from ninth. The team was three points from eighth place.
