University of Rochester junior Madeline O’Connell was a part of two school records and was a triple-event winner on Friday, competing at the University of Rochester Spring Classic. Individually, O’Connell smashed a 34-year-old school record by over a second in the 400 meters, posting a time of 55.38 seconds to place first and rank first nationally in Division III. The other school record she broke was on Rochester’s 4x100-meter relay which was first of six teams in a time of 48.19 seconds. The quartet currently ranks ninth nationally. O’Connell completed her day with a win in the pole vault, clearing 3.67 meters. All three marks were also All-Atlantic Region qualifiers.
